The traditional homeland of the Atsugewi First Nations tribe is northeastern California. They were hunter/gatherers who lived in small communities. They traded with nearby tribes; Atsugewi made baskets and bows to trade.
Today their population is very low, so they are combined with other bands of First Nations peoples. We call them the “Pit River Tribe.” Almost none of them speak their language; they speak English instead. They work together to manage a casino.
Their religion is described as “ethnic religions” but almost half are Christian.
The Atsugewi and others who make up the Pit River Tribe need to diversify their economy.
Pray for Atsugewi disciples to make more disciples.
Pray for their spirituality to be centered on Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Pray for spiritual hunger to be satisfied by a deep relationship with the only savior.
